Greetings University of Illinois alumni and friends. You are invited to a unique March 18, 2010 program that follows others this year in featuring something about your campus that perhaps you didn’t know or knew little about. Our March program, to be given by Professor Gunji, will focus on the study of Japanese arts and culture, which Japan House offers through courses, seminars, community outreach programs and visiting artist programs. Professor Gunji will do a kimono demonstration as part of her presentation. Japan House, now celebrating it’s 10th anniversary on campus, comprises of three rooms originally constructed in Japan, then shipped to the University and assembled by Japanese carpenters. Kimiko Gunji has been the director of Japan House since 1998. Professor Gunji teaches Ikebana (Japanese flower arranging,) a course relating to the Japanese Tea Ceremony and another offering on Japanese Arts. As for last month, Champaign and Green Valley residents Bruce and Ingrid Hutchings have secured programs for the remainder of the 2010-winter season, a period when the club is without officers and directors. This is a pay-as-you-go venture, as dues were NOT collected last year to subsidize program costs. The cost has been increased from $21 to $23 - Sorry, but still a good deal for dining out at one of Green Valley’s premium places. Reservations close …………………………………………….….
